The group opposed to the location of a new mega-hospital off Walker Rd. near County Rd. 42 is launching a new appeal.
Citizens for An Accountable Mega-Hospital Planning Process (CAMPP) has hired Toronto lawyer Eric Gillespie to file its appeal to the new Local Planning Appeal Tribunal.
It's the body that replaces the Ontario Municipal Board, which was terminated about a year ago.
"One of the key problems with this proposal is it's 13 kilometres away from the core of Windsor," says Gillespie. "Not very many people live out there, so there's just a fundamental breakdown in what is generally being viewed these days good planning."
He says putting the new hospital on a Greenfield site is a key concern.
"Most communities are not encouraging urban sprawl. They're trying to preserve what is now becoming a scarce resource and that is good agricultural properties. This proposal goes in the opposite direction."
Gillespie says there are concerns that some communities such as First Nations have not been included in the process and belives members of the medical community have been dissuaded from speaking out.
He expects this filing will lead to a hearing in March where the tribunal will decide if the appeal can go ahead.
Gillespie hints at a bit of intrigue, in that they have an unnamed witness to speak to their cause.
He says the proponents for the new hospital will be told who it is before the name is made public.
