A renowned Canadian artist is stepping up to his canvas to help in the restoration of the historic Bellevue House in Amherstburg.
Known as the 'War of 1812 painter', Peter Rindlisbacher will create an oil painting of the house in its prime.
Funds from the sale of the painting and possible prints will be used in the restoration of the heritage property.
Rindlisbacher says this building deserves to be restored. "this was built in the aftermath of the war and basically the new hope for the town and for the area. So it was constructed then and admired in its day and this group is trying to bring it back to what it used to be."
The town recently decided to purchase the property and restore it.
It was designated a National Historic Site in 1959.
The Bellevue House was built between 1816 and 1819 and has since been a private home, then a hospital, a Ukrainian Catholic Church and was then neglected.
