The wait is over for the opening of the brand new Giant Tiger in Windsor west end.
The store is at the corner of Tecumseh Road West and Huron Church Road on the former Studio 4 property.
The new Giant Tiger is 17,500 square feet, and is the fourth one in the city of Windsor.
The new store will be in councillor Fabio Costante's ward, Ward 2.
He says Giant Tiger is a welcomed addition to the west end.
"Since we've lost Zellers and Kmart many years ago, we've never had a replacement. So, this is the first time that we'll have a retail store that will be somewhat comparable to those retail stores back in the 80's and 90's. So, I think it's going to be a welcomed addition to the community and we're really excited to see it happen."
He says having this location that is in walking and cycling distance for residents on the west end is crucial.
"Certainly, a lot of residents have been calling for this type of retail for a long time, and specifically asking for a Giant Tiger actually, for many years. And so the fact that Giant Tiger decided to located here I think is a wonderful addition to the neighbourhood. It's also emblematic of a lot of the development we've been seeing along Huron Church."
He says the city is looking to expand with more stores along both sides of Huron Church.
"There's been a lot of development in the last year or two around some food options and other retail options. I see that hopefully continuing, and with respect to the city's roll how can we connect the neighbourhoods both east and west of Huron Church to the Huron Church corridor, and make it more pedestrian and commuter friendly as well."
The new Giant Tiger is located at 1475 Huron Church Road.
Doors will open at 8 a.m.
