There are new rules for Tecumseh residents when it comes to garbage collection.
As of January 1st, the town will no longer pick-up trash that's not in a hard-sided garbage container.
The decision was made in September to control urban rodents by eliminating a major food source for them.
Councillor Andrew Dowie says council introduced the change for the betterment of the community. "Our main concern is making sure that food is found within the hard-sided garbage container because then it takes away the food source for animals and that will help this program be as effective as it can be."
The town is asking residents to get standard size metal or plastic hard-sided containers with handles and a watertight lid.
If garbage placed at the curb is not in a hard-sided container, it will not be picked-up and the property owner maybe subject to a fine.
