The Greater Essex County District School Board has been so successful in recruiting international students, it has hired someone to focus primarily on that.
Michelle Marcus has accepted the full-time position of International Student Program Lead. Her job will be to recruit students and work with them to make sure their experience is a success.
Superintendent of Education Vicki Houston says Marcus is looking forward to the opportunity.
"One of the first responsibilities that she will have is recruiting international students and agents to work with us in different countries," says Houston. "She'll also be responsible for assisting students up on their arrival once they come to us."
Houston says Marcus will recruit international students.
"She'll be working very closely with the schools that the students will be going too and meeting with them, student orientation, in terms of tracking with their academic progress and she'll also be responsible for some of the marketing and public relations for the program," says Houston.
In one year, enrollment of international students has nearly tripled. International student enrollment increased from 32 to 91 in the 2016-17 school year.
The board is expecting about 140 students from different countries to be part of the 2017-18 school year.
