Windsor's rich cultural diversity will be showcased at a new festival next month.
The first "Hummus Festival" will take place on Sunday, September 23 at Catholic Central High School.
It's being put on by the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board, Windsor Jewish Community Centre and Windsor Islamic Association.
Jay Katz is the Executive Director of the local Jewish Community Centre.
He says the event brings different cultures together.
"Aside for our love of hummus, we are actually very pleased and I would say a little proud to be in a place like Windsor where three diverse communities and come together like this and plan an event," says Katz.
Katz says he's proud the three organizations are planning the event together.
"It's been fun, it's been easy where all happy to be there," says Katz. "We're all bringing a unique mix of backgrounds to the table and we all love hummus."
He says the organizing committee brings a unique mix of backgrounds to the table.
"It's nice in the face of all the differences we're constantly seeing to be in a place where were celebrating our similarities and hummus helps us do it, even better," says Katz.
A panel of judges will pick Windsor's best hummus from six local restaurants competing at the event.
The winning hummus will receive an award named after the late local businessman Mark Boscariol.
