The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has chosen a name for its new elementary school.
The school is set to open in September of this year and will be called St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Elementary School.
The $7.5 million school will merge JK to Grade 6 students from St. Jules, St. Bernard and Our Lady of Lourdes schools.
St. Teresa of Calcutta will feature modern technology integrated into the building along with elevators and ramps to make it accessible to all students.
St. Bernard's Principal Elise Daragon says several staff members from the other schools will also be transferring to the new facility.
She says the school's technology will introduce students to a new way of learning.
"The students will be exposed to robotics, Crome Books and iPads as a part of their everyday life," Daragon says. "A lot of traditional pencil and paper tasks have been replaced with more computer-generated responses and certainly you are going to see our student engagement rate at a very, very high level."
Daragon says the school was named by students.
"This name is very important to us because it is the voice of our students," says Daragon. "Our students were given the opportunity to participate in the naming process as were all community members."
She says the school's teachers will stand out most of all.
"We are housing the school with an outstanding staff," says Daragon. "They will be familiar with the students because many of them are coming to us from their existing community."
The school has been in the works for the past ten years and will be located on Meldrum Rd.
Currently, just under 500 students are enrolled for September.
