There's a new colourful and dynamic piece of artwork gracing the city's west end.
Windsor Police, Our West End Neighbourhood Renewal-Life after Fifty and students at Westview Freedom Academy on California Ave have installed a giant diversity mural on the school's east entrance wall.
It resembles a kaleidoscope of colours along with a falcon which is the school's mascot.
It is called a diversity mural because it represents the 72 countries which make up the school's student body.
"We have taken these boards and brought it into the classroom which allows us to not deal with the weather. Students work on it during class and we are able to bring it outside and hang it. It is also nice because if we ever have to relocate it, the boards will come with us," says Windsor Police Community Services Branch Constable Deanna Lamont.
Art Teacher Emily Carruthers says the mural creates a sense of pride in the school.
"I think the end-result is that it is very brilliant and it catches the eye of the public and the community," she says
Leo Gil with the Our West End Neighbourhood Renewal says it promotes a sense of community as west end neighbourhoods want to be treated like any other neighbourhood.
Over 40 students and volunteers worked on the project since early October.
