The newly elected Windsor City Council has received the ABCs of city hall.
A three-hour mandatory orientation session took place Friday morning at Willistead Manor involving all ten council members and mayor along with city managers.
They learned about the role of council, the municipal act, budget process, labour relations, conflicts of interest, confidentiality and by-laws.
Each manager also provided an overview of their department, responsibilities and upcoming projects.
"Like anything that you start, especially a corporation of this size, with an $800-million budget, $100-million capital budget, there is a lot to chew at," says newly elected Ward 2 Councillor Fabio Costante.
Newly elected Ward 10 Councillor Jim Morrison was happy to meet all the managers and learn their roles.
"There are a lot of things that go on in the corporation that probably most people aren't even aware of, " says Morrison. "So some of the statistics are overwhelming and I'm saying that's why we may have some issues in that area."
Gary Kaschak was elected in Ward 8 to replace Bill Marra. Following the session, he expressed optimism about the city's future.
"The economy is at a good period right now and the revenues are a little higher than they used to be but some of the expenses are attainable. We can get things done in our ward and throughout the city."
The inauguration meeting for the new council takes place Monday, December 3rd.
