A new type of hockey league is coming to Windsor-Essex.
The Ontario Ball Hockey Association is welcoming Windsor-Essex to the mix.
Director of the Windsor-Essex Ball Hockey League Will Quesnel says in addition to the men's divisions, he hopes to start up a minor and women's program this year in Windsor-Essex.
"There is definitely a demand for the youth because when I went to Toronto for an interview with the Ontario Ball Hockey Association and I applied for an application, I was accepted unanimously by the board of directors," says Quesnel.
He says the women's program will depend on the response and hopes to hold registration soon to begin playing in March or April.
"Once the rinks are flooded out of ice, then we can start up immediately," he says. "I'm open to playing at the WFCU, Adie Knox and Essex, I know Essex takes the ice out on one of their pads."
Quesnel started the Windsor Floor Hockey League in 2009 but he says the league was restricted because it played out of high school size gyms.
He hopes playing on rinks without ice will spark an uptick in participants for the Windsor-Essex Ball Hockey league.
