The Neighbours Helping Neighbours program is officially kicking off in Kingsville.
A community barbeque with entertainment is being held on Thursday at the Kingsville Community Centre on Division Road.
The program is an outreach of the Windsor Essex Compassion Care Community.
The idea is that people in the community who need assistance are connected with people who can offer help.
The community centre is affiliated with the Kingsville Community Church.
Pastor Tom Harmon says they've been developing the program for a while.
"We were able to help a number of people to connect with other groups and things in the community that add to their circle of care," says Harmon. "So that they would be better equipped to look after things in their own lives."
Compassion Care Community spokesperson Christie Nelson says the program is in operation in several local communities.
"We're pairing those people together so that people can be serviced, people can be supported and in the process people are donating their time as well as their skills, strengths and talents to help support people in the community." says Nelson.
The kickoff event at the community centre is open to the public and starts at 6pm.
There are currently 45 people enrolled in the Neighbours Helping Neighbours program in Kingsville.
