Local NDP MPPs are not supporting back-to-work legislation to end the five-week strike by Ontario's college faculty.
A debate on the legislation will begin around 3pm today and will last at least six hours or more, throughout the weekend.
The Liberals are looking for unanimous support for the legislation but because they have a majority, the legislation will eventually pass.
Essex MPP Taras Natyshak says the Liberal government had five weeks to get involved and intervene with the dispute and is now looking for a legislation hail mary pass to provide some cover.
Natyshak says the party won't play a role in that.
"The fact that Kathleen Wynne and her government are bringing forward back-to-work legislation to force an end to the labour dispute is an abject failure again of this Liberal government’s ability to fairly negotiate."
Windsor West MPP Lisa Gretzky agrees that the NDP are never supportive of back-to-work legislation
"That doesn't solve the underlying issues and it doesn't solve the fact that our colleges are the lowest funded public education institutions in the country."
Gretzky says the Liberals were playing politics with their wording.
"Yesterday was just them playing games. They are out there telling us that we blocked the legislation. We don't have the majority, they do, so we can't block the legislation. So they will push it through like they want to do."
Gretzky and Natyshak say the answer for the dispute is to force the College Employer Council to the table to negotiate.
