The three New Democrat MPP's in Windsor-Essex have laid out the party's platform for this region.
Party Leader Andrea Horwath formally launched the document and highlights six changes that will benefit this end of the province.
Gathered at Windsor-West MPP Lisa Gretzky's campaign office, Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Percy Hatfield and Essex MPP Taras Natyshak addressed various elements in the 16 page document.
Natyshak says support for rural schools and communities is important.
"New Democrats have committed today to ending the closure of rural and remote schools until we can fix the funding formula. We cannot use this failed PC - Liberal funding formula any longer to determine the fate of small communities and their access to education"
Hatfield says the NDP supports high speed rail to Windsor as part of their Southwestern Transportation Strategy.
"We want to proceed with the environmental assessment, we don't want it to be done in phases, we want it done so Windsor knows where we stand as opposed to an afterthought and we also want to boost regional transportation to make sure that we have a strategy that no one is left behind in the smaller towns"
Gretzky says education is a key plank of the platform and making post secondary education affordable is their pledge.
"We would convert all of the OSAP loans into grants and any of the interest in those loans would also be forgiven if anybody has paid interest on those loans it would go back to them, we want to ensure everyone has the best start possible when they're coming out of our post secondary institutions"
There was a strong focus on health care with a promise of adding 2000 hospital beds across Ontario including 89 at Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare that are already there, but not funded for use.
Among the other elements in the platform is a pledge to complete Highway 3 all the way to Leamington and reduce electricity bills by 30%.
The party says the platform is fully costed and won't mean higher taxes for most people, only those at a higher income.
