New Democrat Taras Natyshak is calling for a complete overhaul of the Standing Committee on Government Agencies.
That's in the wake of numerous scandals surrounding political appointments with "fat salaries" to people with ties to Doug Ford's Ontario PC's.
Most recently, Ford's Chief of Staff Dean French resigned after it was established two foreign posts were personally connected to him — an appointee to Ontario's Accountants Council also resigned after The Opposition noted that she is French's niece.
Natyshak sits on the committee and says due process is being ignored by Conservative MPP's who, "helped appointees skip appearing before committee ... claiming ... the government was already vetting every candidate thoroughly."
The Essex MPP says there's a loophole in the vetting process that needs to be closed
"What we've seen is the PC representatives on that committee have essentially rubber stamped every person that's come before us," he says. "There's a 30-day time-frame allotted to review a group of appointees and unless we vote to extend that time frame, these people just get through on a loop hole and are automatically appointed."
Natyshak tells AM800 News Ford needs to step up and fix the situation.
"It's time for Doug Ford to come clean on this and start fresh with a new group of MPP's who are dedicated to doing the job, who are duty bound to do the job what they took the oath of office to actually provide oversight that people want to see," added Natyshak.
A spokesperson for the premier said Ford directed his staff to review all pending appointments.
But Natyshak says that process is happening behind closed doors and it needs to be in the public eye.
