A project aimed at helping the agri-business and greenhouse sector expand in Leamington and Kingsville is officially complete.

Union Gas celebrated the completion of its $12-million natural gas pipeline project that increases capacity to the region.

Construction began in the summer and it went into service in October.

Union Gas Spokesperson Andrea Stass says it's a boost for business.

"The pipeline will service 55 greenhouse operations and provide the equivalent of 550 acres of natural gas capacity so it is a significant increase," says Stass.

She says Union Gas also has a $265-million Panhandle Pipeline Project before the Ontario Energy Board to increase natural gas capacity to service the Windsor-Essex and  Chatham Kent areas.

She hopes to hear something from the board in early spring to begin construction next year.
