On the heels of losing three local eateries after the passing of restauranteur Mark Bascariol a major Canadian restaurant chain will be bringing more than 50-jobs to downtown Windsor.
Fionn MacCool's will be opening its doors in the newly renovated and soon to be rebranded Four Points by Sheraton on the corner of Ouellette Ave. and Park St. sometime in October.— the site is currently the Sunbridge Hotel and Convention Centre.
Sunray Group Executive Director Christine Melnyk tells AM800 News the hiring process is still at the management phase.
"We will be scheduling a job fair in future, at this point I'm hiring the management team; a general manager, a kitchen manager, and later we'll be hiring a few supervisors and the rest of the team," Melnyk says.
The pub will be the first national restaurant chain to land in Windsor's core since The Keg — even though there's plenty of competition from neighbouring eateries and bars — Melnyk is confident Fionn MacCool's will fill a niche in the heart of Windsor's entertainment district.
"I think it's a little different than what we do see in the neighbourhood, we really do expect it to take off and do very well for us," says Melnyk. "It has a really neat concept, sustainably grown food, a restaurant pub menu, great bar menu as well. We will also be open for breakfast as it is within one of our hotels."
Melnyk tells AM800 News a date hasn't been set, but there will be a job fair to hire front and back of house staff a few weeks before opening.
The 142-seat pub-style restaurant and bar will be the first Fionn MacCool's west of London — there are 42 locations across Canada.
