It's not a new beauty trend.
Ontario Minister of Children and Youth Services Michael Coteau is painting just one of his fingernails in the name of child safety.
October is Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Polished Man campaign sees men painting one of their five fingernails to signify the ratio of one young person dying every five minutes as a result of violence.
As heard on AM800's The Afternoon News, Coteau says it's a great opportunity to get people involved in the effort to keep children safe.
"I think it's the time for us to look at ways to raise awareness in regards to child protection and to remind people that I think are best investment out there is investment into our young people and we need to make sure that they're safe and that they're well taken care of."
Coteau hopes more men jump on bored in the Polished Man campaign.
"It's really about men in our society recognizing that one in five young people do suffer from some type of abuse and as men taking a stand."
Coteau says it's a great conversation starter.
"You'd be surprised how many people stop you and ask, 'Why do you have one fingernail painted?'" says Coteau. "It's just an opportunity to raise the issue and let people know how they can contribute and help."
Coteau encourages anyone interested in the cause to get involved by making a donation or volunteering at a local child protection agency.
