The CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital is dispelling myths over the new acute care hospital project.
Speaking at the Unifor Local 444 retirees luncheon at the Caboto Club, David Musyj told the crowd of about 1,400 that the new hospital will have the same and potentially more beds than both hospitals combined.
He also pointed out that 80% of the rooms will be private and if people don't have private coverage then they would not have to pay for the upgrade. "There is rumours out there that we are going to have less beds in this facility. No! We are going to have, if it opened today, the same amount of beds plus expanding to over 700 beds in the facility."
"The new facility will be capable of dealing with outbreaks," says Musyj. "There is a rumour out there if we go to one facility, we are not going to have if there is an outbreak, what will happen? The way the two facilities are right now, God forbid if there is an outbreak now, they are 100 and 125-years old."
Musyj says there will need to be a rezoning change to the property at County Rd. 42 and the 9th Concession to accommodate the new hospital and he is expecting there will be an appeal to the Ontario Municipal Board.
He points out of the 22 properties considered for the new hospital, all 22 would require a zoning change.
The rezoning change will go before a city committee this fall and then city council for approval.
