Windsor police have upgraded charges in connection with a brutal assault on the Ganatchio Trail.
A 75-year-old woman was attacked on the morning of Sunday October 8, 2017 while picking up garbage and was found unconscious by Windsor Fire and Rescue and EMS personnel.
Sara Anne Widholm was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries including multiple brain hemorrhages, a blood clot on the surface of her brain, extensive skull-fractures, a fractured vertebrae in her neck, a lacerated scalp and a badly bruised face.
The 76-year-old passed away on Saturday at the Met campus of Windsor Regional Hospital.
Habibullah Ahmadi is now charged with second degree murder.
He was 21-years-old at the time of his arrest.
Ahmadi was previously charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder.
The Major Crimes Branch continues to actively investigate the case.
