A new mural for Essex Town Centre is going before council for final approval Monday night.
The town's Business Improvement Association will be footing the bill for the 8-ft by 48-ft piece at a cost of $10,000. It will grace the wall of Wood Craft Pizza at 47 Talbot St. N. and face a recently rejuvenated parkette.
Art Attack Windsor has been commissioned for a project Ward 1 Councillor Steven Bjorkman says council will likely embrace at Monday's meeting.
"I think it's just what that space needs. They're doing a great job through the BIA keeping that area of the town fixed up and beautified," he says.
He tells AM800 News artwork goes a long way toward keeping people downtown.
"It's a park theme, really bright with flowers, dragonflies, a sky blue background to it, just to inject some life into that area of our downtown," says Bjorkman.
He says artwork goes a long way toward keeping people downtown.
"We want people to spend time in our downtown, you've got to give them somewhere where they feel comfortable, where they feel welcomed," he says. "We've got three or four restaurants all in that block right now that people can go to at lunch time, get some take-out and go sit in that park."
Bjorman says, if approved, work will be completed by the end of the fall.
