Millions of dollars are on the way to municipalities across Windsor-Essex.
It's part of the first of two $408-million annual instalments from the federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) being sent to Ontario.
Windsor will receive over $13-million while at the County of Essex level, it is getting over $5.6-million.
But Essex County Chief Administrative Officer Rob Maisonville says part of $5.6-million is redistributed to the seven municipalities.
"The $5.6-million is distributed to each of the seven municipalities and then what we do is re-allocate our portion, so that it becomes an 80-20 split."
So ultimately, it leaves $2.2-million at the county for infrastructure projects.
"At the county level, we utilize those dollars for our roadway infrastructure, so whether it is actual roadways or bridges or culverts, that is traditionally where we utilize those funds."
Last year, the county received $5.4-million.
In total, the province will be provided with over $819 million this year through the fund.
The GTF is a long-term source of funding that supports local infrastructure projects in more than 600 communities across the province each year.
Communities can invest across 18 different project categories including transit, roads, sewer and water systems.
The breakdown of funds is as follows:
