The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two Leamington residents after separate vehicle stops.
The first happened Tuesday evening around 6:45 p.m. when police were called to Talbot Street East in Leamington after a concerned citizen had observed a vehicle, where the driver was attempting to fuel up their vehicle.
The vehicle was located and officers spoke to the driver who allegedly displayed signs of impairment.
Officers had reason to believe that the driver was impaired by drug, and they were subsequently arrested.
The accused was transported to the Leamington OPP Detachment for further tests by an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (D.R.E.).
The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused' driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.
A 42-year-old has been charged with the following offences:
-Operation while Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs
-Failure or refusal to comply with demand
The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled in Windsor at a later date.
The second arrest happened early Wednesday morning around 12:30 a.m. when members of the Leamington OPP were performing a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Erie Street North.
A vehicle entered the RIDE program at which time it was determined the driver had allegedly previously consumed alcohol.
A 60-year-old has been charged with:
-Operation while impaired - alcohol
-Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled in Windsor at a later date.
The OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.
