The Lakeshore parents who lost their young son in a high-profile battle with cancer has received some good news...the family is growing.
Chantelle Bacon is pregnant.
Her son, 4-year-old Mason Macri, died June 27th after a battle with cancer and Bacon's due date is in June, the same month Mason passed away.
"I feel like Mason planned that," says Chantelle Bacon. "He didn't want us to be so sad and so he decided a little brother or sister so that we weren't sad all of June."
The outpouring of support sparked the "Fight like Mason" cause to help kids battling cancer
Bacon says to be pregnant again means a lot.
"To continue on Mason's legacy and to have a little bit of him in another child. Not having Mason with us showed us that it is lonely just the two of us and we still wanted to be parents still."
She admits it is a struggle and every day is hard for her and Mason's father Iain Macri as there are ups and downs and certain triggers but they are excited for the new baby.
"As long as we go forward and keep talking about Mason and remembering him, it helps a lot."
The "Flight Like Mason" online shop has also been launched at fightlikemason.org.
Proceeds will go for medical equipment for children and sarcoma cancer research.
