A major swimming competition isn't the only attraction coming to the City of Windsor in 50 days.
Over 1,000 delegates and swimming coaches are scheduled to attend the 2016 FINA World Aquatics Convention and FINA World Sports Medicine Congress.
The convention at Caesars Windsor December 3-5 will include coaches clinics, exhibits and discussions on the advancements in the sport.
There will also be a gala dinner and awards ceremony that will include an outstanding award to American swimmer Michael Phelps. Phelps will be in Windsor for the gala.
"Over 170 countries will be here and I think that makes it the biggest event ever in Windsor considering the number of countries taking part," says FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculesu.
More than 400 organizations will be represented at the convention.
Canada's FINA Bureau Member Dr. Margo Mountjoy says athletes only get to be stars by being healthy.
"FINA takes very seriously the health and well being of our athletes, so every four years we have this world conference and it will be held in Windsor and we will look at the latest scientific evidence on how to make our swimmers swim better and faster," she says.
2000 hotel room nights have been booked for the convention.
The convention will take place prior to the FINA World Swimming Championships 25m December 6-11.
