There will be additional support on the picket lines on Friday for roughly 6,100 teachers and support staff in Windsor-Essex.
Members of the Windsor University Faculty Association (WUFA) are also joining the day of action.
WUFA President Peter Zimmerman says it's voluntary for his members but he expects a large turnout, adding members have already joined the one-day pickets but more will be out on Friday.
"This is a bigger moment I think for the teacher unions with all four teacher unions going out together for the first time since 1997, we thought it was important for our members to add our voice to that as well," says Zimmerman.
He says all unions are pushing in the same direction and supporting the teacher unions.
"We're looking for the provincial government to reverse the cuts to education funding, get back to the table and negotiate with the four teacher unions and come up with a deal that makes our education system the best we can have," says Zimmerman.
He says the academic sector is coming together.
"There is province-wide support as well," Zimmerman explains. "What you saw from WUFA is similar to something that's come out at the provincial level and many of the other universities. So we're really supportive of the teachers and their action."
Staff at An-Noor Private School in Windsor is also supporting striking educational workers and will picket in front of the school on Janette Avenue from 9:30am until 11:30am.
The walkout involves more than 6,000 teachers and support staff from elementary, high school, French language and Catholic teachers in Windsor-Essex.
A major rally at Queen's Park is also expected to draw as many as 30,000 educators and their supporters.
