Amherstburg, Ont. will be reopening some areas of the Libro Centre Monday, but is holding off on resuming other services during Stage Three of the COVID-19 reopening plan.
The multi-purpose arena and athletic facility at 3295 Meloche Rd. is part of the provinces recent announcement that will allow up to 50 users per room if space permits physical distancing.
Director of Parks, Recreation, Facilities and Tourism Phil Roberts says the town is still weighing its options as it waits for user groups to bring forward plans that fit provincial guidelines.
"Some of these groups may not want to participate because attendance is going to be lower, the cost per user could be higher, there's really a number of variables in all of this," he added.
Roberts says the town doesn't want to contribute to a resurgence of the virus, so he's asking residents to be patient.
"We have to make sure that we get it right. We want to make sure we've taken every reasonable precaution to ensure that we can provide a clean safe facility," says Roberts.
He tells AM800 News the final decision on what will reopen and when ice will be put in at the arena falls on town council.
"Our council is reviewing that and a number of other things, but they haven't made a decision on what our program will be moving forward," says Roberts. "We expect more on that as we give them more information."
Roberts says the walking track will resume regular hours Monday. The town's Planning and Building Department are also housed in the Libro Centre and will reopen to the public as well.
Amherstburg Town Council has its next meeting on Sept. 14.
