Town council in Amherstburg has approved the final phase of a multi-million dollar project.
The final tender has been awarded in the Edgewater Sewage Diversion project.
The project includes the de-commissioning of the Edgewater Lagoon system along with upgrades to Pump Station #2 and the construction of a new force main connecting the lagoon system to the town's Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says the project paves the way for as many as 700 new homes in the Edgewater area.
"We've had developers in that area that have just been limited in continuing with development based on the infrastructure or the lack of infrastructure that we have in that area," says DiCarlo. "This is pretty much the final piece, of course the main portion of the de-commissioning of the lagoons."
The Edgewater area is just north of Golfview and Point West in the area of County Road 20.
The tender is worth just under $9 million with the price tag for the overall project at more than $14-million.
DiCarlo says the developer along with grants from both the federal and provincial governments are assisting the town with the project.
He says the goal is to start the work in mid-August with the hope of finishing it by the end of the year or early next year.
