Legal Assistance of Windsor is pleased the province is increasing its funding.
Starting on Saturday, it is increasing the financial eligibility threshold for legal aid by another six per cent.
Across the province, it means about 140,000 more people will be eligible to receive the legal services.
Executive Director of Legal Assistance of Windsor Marion Overholt says before the increase, people were left to defend themselves.
"The problem was that the legal aid eligibility rates have been frozen for so long that we had a lot of clients who were not eligible for legal aid certificates or to receive assistance from the clinics," says Overholt.
"If they don't have an understanding how the legal system works or trying to represent themselves then they can end up in a situation where they may be facing a jail term, they may be unable to resolve a family conflict."
The province says it is investing almost $67-million this year to help Legal Aid Ontario provide services in area such as criminal, family, immigration, mental health and property law.
