There is a new program available for landlords of multi-unit residential buildings who are looking to upgrade.
Funding is now available in the form of a 15-year forgivable loan for up to $50,000 per renal unit.
Landlords looking to make repairs to increase accessibility could also be eligible to receive the first $5,000 in the form of a grant that does not have to be repaid.
Coordinator of Housing Administration and Development with the City of Windsor, Kelly Goz, says the program is to assist landlords of eligible, affordable rental buildings.
"Either rehabilitate affordable units that require essential repairs or modify their current affordable units to increase its accessibility."
Goz says the program is available to landlords who own multi-residential buildings that have three or more units and in the City of Windsor or any municipality in Essex County.
"The building must be five years or older and we're looking for properties and buildings that have payments up to date, that are currently insured, they have tax information, and that they have accessibility or renovation needs that would be eligible under the program."
She says the goal of the program is to get units into compliance with building and fire codes.
"Ultimately increase the availability of affordable housing stock in our community. I think the information shows that we can always use more affordable units in our community and programs like this will help landlords bring their buildings up into compliance."
Applications through the City of Windsor will be accepted until July 22.
