The Migrant Worker Community Program is offering a 2023 Health and Information Fair today.
The 2023 Health and Information Fair aims to inform migrant workers of the health and social services that are offered to them in the region, as well as gain a greater understanding of the local organizations in the community.
At the fair there will be free medical assessments, legal assistance, mental health support, food, music, and prizes.
Free services include blood pressure test, glucose screenings for diabetes, and COVID-19 vaccines.
Martin Varela, Chair of the Migrant Worker Community Program, says there will be many services offered to those in attendance.
"We're going to have over 20 organizations over there providing information. We're going to get blood pressure tests, glucose screening for diabetes, we're going to have COVID-19 vaccinations."
He says they're hoping for a big turnout.
"We hope the same number as last year. Last year we had over 400 migrant workers. So we're expecting the same or more migrant workers."
Varela says the services will provided in multiple languages.
"We have a lot of volunteers and members of the staff who speak Spanish. There is a large Spanish population of the migrant workers. So we provide a service, and we provide the service in their own language."
The event runs Sunday, April 30 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. located at the Roma Club at 19 Seacliff Drive East in Leamington.
The program has partnered with over 20 organizations in Windsor-Essex, Sarnia-Lambton, and Chatham-Kent. .
