At least one east Windsor business is unsure what to expect when the Memorial Cup rolls into town Friday.
John Max is located on Lauzon Pkwy and Tecumseh Rd. E., right around the corner from the WFCU Centre. A prime location for a major sporting event, but that's not the case according to manager Mike Adams.
He says Windsor Spitfire fans pack the bar and grill before games, but every time an event was supposed to draw people from out of town, he says there has been very little benefit to surrounding business owners.
"The problem is, it's nice to have Windsor here obviously because the locals know where we stand, it's more of the people that are coming outside, we find the people are basically directed straight downtown," says Adams.
Adams tells AM800 News, with the majority of hotels in Windsor's downtown core, athletes and spectators are simply bypassing east Windsor.
He says without many hotels in the area, fans and athletes wind up relying on shuttles and transit that simply skips the east-end altogether.
John Max East will be broadcasting every game of the 2017 Memorial Cup for local hockey fans.
