The CEO of Tourism Windsor-Essex-Pelee Island calls the 2017 Mastercard Memorial Cup "a tremendous event."
Gordon Orr says the host organizing committee did a great job with the event that will keep local and out of town residents talking about the area.
He says the Spits winning was a great way to cap off the event.
"It was a fantastic conclusion to what was a first class event and I think certainly we handily demonstrated thanks to the host organizing committee, the Spitfire organization, the city of Windsor that we can host a signature sporting event such as this," says Orr.
He says the event showcased what Windsor-Essex has to offer.
"At the end of the day, a lot of people came here that hadn't been here before. They experienced what we have known to enjoy as the tourism amenities in our own back yard and they left here knowing that this was a very memorable Mastercard Memorial Cup," says Orr.
He says it's still early but feels there was a significant economic spin off from the event.
"Make no mistake, millions of dollars were left behind that helped promote and support the tourism industry that employs over 16,000 people here regionally. But this had a positive impact on so many levels whether it be community pride, the volunteerism and of course making us feel like we're all winners here in the great city of Windsor," says Orr.
The Spitfires won their third Memorial Cup championship in nine seasons with a 4-3 win over Erie.
