The owner of a medical marijuana clinic in Windsor is celebrating the legalization of cannabis.
A party was held Wednesday at Compassion House on Tecumseh Rd. near Dougall Rd.
It's owned by marijuana activist Leo Lucier who says the Liberal government went about the legalization backwards.
"They legalized without educating, they should have educated first, then legalized," says Lucier. "Now it's a big, police don't know what's going on, I don't know what's going on, I don't know the laws, everything's a mix-up right now, right?"
He believes marijuana can be a tool against opioid addiction, as he saw while at the Brentwood Recovery Home.
"What I seen in those rooms was only a 2% success rate for recovering addicts. With cannabis it jumps up to 15-20%, so not everybody's going to be cured from opiate addiction using cannabis but the rates will go up so you have a chance," says Lucier.
As of now, anyone living in Ontario can only buy recreational marijuana online but private retail stores will be opening in the spring.
Lucier plans to sell cannabis once those plans are in place.
"I'm hoping to be grandfathered in, I've been at it for a long time, right? I'm one of the lead activists," he says "I don't like speaking about other people's businesses, but Higher Limits should have a right to be in on it too. He's been outspoken over there, Jon Liedtke, and obviously I've been outspoken on my part, too."
