Unifor has issued a formal strike notice to Medical Laboratories of Windsor.
About 90 medical lab assistants and medical lab technicians, represented by Unifor Local 2458, will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01am on October 2nd.
The workers at the eight testing facilities have been without a contract since March 2017.
Union Secretary-Treasurer Tullio DiPonti says the workers are providing vital medical information for patients, but many are making half of what those doing the same job in a hospital are paid.
For the first five years on the job, medical lab technicians earn $22.00 an hour and medical lab assistants earn $13.50.
