A big boost today for the John McGivney Centre from the 8th annual Gary McNamara Charity Golf Tournament Sept 12.
McNamara and several of the tournament volunteers presented a cheque to the centre for $18,000.
The funds go to the child care programs at the centre.
As well McNamara handed out cheques to 14 other charitable groups who share in the other half of the $36,000 proceeds from the event: "when you look at Downtown Mission is getting, plus the bursary fund the Siro Martinello Foundation, goodfellows locally, St. Vincent de Paul Society just to name a few"
McGivney Centre CEO Elaine Whitmore says this helps their programs a lot: "it's a program where we have an integrated setting so we have children with special needs but also those without it provides that very inclusive environment for both groups of children builds great sensitivity for children who haven't been exposed to special needs kids previously and they become much more comfortable"
Among the other benefactors from the program are Family Services of Windsor Essex, which receives $5000.
McNamara says the golf tournament at Beachgrove has now raised over a quarter million dollars for a variety of charitable and community projects over the years.
