Windsor Mayoral Candidate Matt Marchand has announced he wants to bring city council to the community as part of his platform in the 2018 Municipal Election.
The former President of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber Of Commerce wants to move council meetings to various locations throughout the city once every quarter in the interest of, "transparency and accountability as well as public access to community debate."
"Every 90 days we would make a judgment as to which part of town that we would go and have a meeting. Whether it's the west-end, Ford City, south-Windsor, Forest Glade," he says. "It's an opportunity to engage in the community at that real local level, but at the same time obviously city council business would continue as planned," says Marchand.
He says it would be at minimal cost to tax payers.
"Right now the city does have ward meetings throughout the city, we also own a lot of community centres," says Marchand.
Frank Dyck, Tom Hensel, and Ernie Lamont have also thrown their hat in the ring for mayor — current Mayor Drew Dilkens has yet to announce if he'll seek re-election.
The 2018 Municipal Election is October 22.
