Aldo DiCarlo has returned to the mayor's seat in Amherstburg.
He attended his first council meeting Monday night since taking a leave last month due to undisclosed health issues.
DiCarlo says, while he's not 100% yet, it's great to be back at town hall.
"For a guy who had two full-time jobs, mentally I've just been losing my mind at home," he says. "I found a few things to keep me busy like the doctor said, but outside of that, there's no replacement for work for a guy who loves to work."
DiCarlo says he may have come back earlier than he should have, but he couldn't help himself.
"I've had a number of rough days lately. It might still be a bit early, but I'm a pretty stubborn guy," he says. "I don't always listen to the advice I should listen to, but it looks like I'm getting through them. So little by little."
If able, DiCarlo says he plans to be at Amherstburg council meetings on a regular basis going forward.
"I still do have doctor's orders to take it easy. If I am going to continue to try and get back to work to, at the very least, find a balance, not overdo it and I think that's the biggest message I've gotten from most people," he says.
DiCarlo adds he's grateful for the support he received from the community during his time off.
