The mayor of Windsor is hoping to see more money from the federal government to help tackle flooding issues.
Drew Dilkens is in Ottawa for the Big City Mayor's Caucus and had a chance to ask Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about flood mitigation funding.
The city is seeking $30-million from the federal government in its Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund to help offset the $90-million cost of the city's plan to prevent flooding in Riverside and east Windsor.
"I actually had the chance to ask the prime minister, on behalf of the group, directly about disaster mitigation and adaptation funds. And as everyone in our community knows, after the big floods we had in both 2016 and 2017, we have applied, we have a plan, it's a $90-million plan," he says.
Speaking on AM800's The Morning Drive, Mayor Drew Dilkens says the funding, if approved, would just be a start.
"There will be several others in the que for several other parts of the city," he says.
The Disaster Mitigation and Adaption Fund is about $2-billion and Dilkens says he wants to make sure Windsor gets its share of the funding.
