Mayor Drew Dilkens is looking to build a new themed section of town centred around Asia.
"Asian Town" would follow in the footsteps of other areas such as Walkerville, which centres as a distillery district, but with a focus on the Asian community.
Dilkens says he's met with leaders of the Asian community who are excited about the possibility.
"It's about economic development, creating a theme, creating a district that I think would be very attractive for people who live here," says Mayor Dilkens.
Although no official plans are in the works, he would like to see it begin on Wyandotte St. West heading into the downtown.
"They (Asian community) told me that it's something they've all talked about in the past individually but one group could never get it off the ground alone," he says. "So they were happy the city was looking at how they could coordinate the groups together to support one initiative."
He believes the next step would be to create a master plan of what the area would look like.
As for a budget, Dilkens says the idea would be presented in the next round of budgets.
