Windsor's mayor has not made up his mind on whether he is in favour of retail pot stores in the city.
Municipalities have until January 22, 2019 to inform the government on whether it wants to opt in.
Speaking on AM800's the Morning Drive, Mayor Drew Dilkens says in the past, he has been in favour of it but he admits there are some red flags.
"The red flag for me here is the school regulation is an obvious one, but we have talked about in the past, parks and the distances from regulated addiction treatment facilities," says Dilkens.
In current regulations, the pot shops must be located at least 150 metres away from a school.
The only decision the city has is whether to opt in.
"The municipality has absolutely no say on anything to do with the locating of any of those sites," he says. "We are completely out of the mix, so that's why this is the one chance that we have to have the conversation as a community and see whether it is right for us."
Regardless of the retail shops, Dilkens says the online sales are always an option.
He's hoping to add in some common sense changes to the regulations to try and keep the retail pot shops away from addiction treatment facilities.
