Recent basement flooding a two Windsor library branches has raised some concern at Windsor city hall.
Mayor Drew Dilkens is worried that city archives are at increased risk of damage from flooding.
Dilkens says items in the Central Library are at increased risk of getting ruined in floods and it's time to protect them.
Dilkens says he is looking to speak with city and library staff, to see what the best solution is, but thinks the best spot would be the Chimczuk museum.
"I think protecting our history is really important, and we've got great archives, we've got a great community museum, and I think we need to find a way to really work closely, that will help preserve the archive, add to the archive, and be able to display them in a seamless way in our museum collection."
He says preserving the history of the city is important. And the recent flooding in two of the cities libraries has been a wakeup call.
"Our archives collection is in the basement at the central library downtown and we don't know when the rains coming," says Dilkens. "We don't know when buildings are going to flood. And i think there's a real risk that one day the Central Library basement could flood and if it does I think it could destroy a significant portion of our archive collection, which I just don't think is acceptable."

He says right now important documents are collecting dust, and he thinks things can be done better
"It's the city's 125th birthday year, and I think we want to do better with respect to our archives, preserving our history and making sure we're doing all we can to add to that collection and really make it a showcase for our community."
Dilkens says there is no official timeline to get this done, but things become old and disappear every day, it's time to take steps to preserve it for future generations.
