The temporary bike lanes will be set up Saturday and Sunday in Windsor
Drivers, walkers and cyclists will be able to experience first-hand one of the recommendations out of the city of Windsor's new Active Transportation Master Plan.
Pop-up events are scheduled for this weekend to raise awareness of the plan called the Walk Wheel Windsor.
The plan lays out the groundwork for creating a well-connected, active transportation networks that are user-friendly regardless if you are walking, driving or cycling.
A Downtown Bike Lane event is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 from 10am to 4pm on Goyeau from University Ave. to Riverside Drive and from University Ave. from Goyeau to McDougall St.
Manager of Transportation Planning Josette Eugeni says the area will have separate bike lanes with temporary barricades dividing vehicles and cars around Goyeau and University.
"There is also a small section in front of Charles Clark Square where the pavement narrows and it will be a shared facility so kinda experiencing the difference between those bike lanes, provided bike lanes, and when you are sharing the road with cars," she says.
Eugeni says there will also be some information on hand.
"There will be some display boards talking about the master plan as well, so talking to them about how they felt cycling through the or driving through the pop-up bicycle lanes," she says.
Other pop-up events are scheduled for Earth Day Sunday, April 28th from 10am to 4pm at Malden Park to talk to staff and the consultant.
Eugeni says it will be interesting to get the feedback afterwards.
"There will be driving through a section where the cyclist is fully separated from the drive lane and then the small section where they are sharing the road, so single file behind one another," she says.
An on-line survey will be launched April 29 to get feedback on the plan which will then be presented to city council in late May or early June.
