Students from as far away as Toronto and parts of Michigan are now a little more enlightened.
The 5th Annual MasseyHacks event welcomed 210 participants over the weekend, about 50 more than the previous year.
The 24-hour hackathon invites students of all backgrounds to immerse themselves in computer science-infused activities, such as programming.
Event Director Noor Nasri, a grade 11 Massey student, says the event gives people an opportunity to connect.=
"We have people coming in as mentors to help out people," says Nasri. "We have people coming in as workshop hosts where they can just teach in the classrooms and that's really all we do, we just provide a place for people to meet."

She says the event also has a competition aspect to it.
"The Great Lakes category prize, so for trying to help the community with water issues," says Nasri. "We also try to encourage hackers to actually submit and present to the judges."
Nasir says plans are in the works to make the event more broad so they can reach more people.
The free annual event is open to any high school student and high school graduates are welcomed as mentors.
