LaSalle's Kylie Masse has won the silver medal in the women's 100 metre backstroke at the FINA World Swimming Championships.
She finished in a time of 56.24 seconds.
Masse says she learned from her first two races where she needed to improve for the finals.
"I knew from prelims and semis the third turn was the one where I was losing a bit of time on. So I really tried to nail that turn and do the best I could off the wall."
This is Masse's first world championships after competing at the Summer Olympics in Rio where she won a bronze medal in the same event.
She admits to having some emotions prior to the finals.
"I was pretty nervous before, being at home and having a lot of people watching. I tried to decrease that pressure as much as I could."
Masse and her teammates, including Canadian Olympic hero Penny Oleksiak, just missed out on a medal earlier in the night when they finished fourth in the women's 4x50 metre medley relay.
Canada finished .02 seconds back of third-place Denmark.
The USA won gold and Italy took silver.
