Windsor West MP Brian Masse is voicing concerns about a section in the Liberal budget this week that could hurt sales of the Windsor built Pacifica.
Under a zero emissions incentive program, if someone purchases a new zero emissions vehicle or electric vehicle, they could receive a $5,000 incentive.
The Pacifica would qualify for the program, but Masse points vehicles must have a manufacturer's suggested retail price below $45,000.
The base model for the Pacifica is $51,000.
Speaking on AM800's the Morning Drive, Masse says essentially, this $300-million program over three years will encourage consumers to buy foreign vehicles.
Masse says he is shocked and appalled.
"We are going to be spending $300-million on vehicles that will be made in other countries as taxpayers incentives and will eliminate the only eligible product in Canada," he says. "It is completely unacceptable. I am going to fight to change this, I have already sent a letter to the minister."
Masse says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the Windsor Assembly Plant and knows about the Pacifica. He says this is just another example of a lazy Liberal government.
