There's still a chance that a proposed mass notification system for Windsor could be approved.
During the 2017 budget deliberations, council did not approve a $65,000 request for funding for the project.
But instead, council has requested more information on what the system would provide and how it would operate.
Windsor Fire Chief Bruce Montone is now preparing a detailed report for council in hopes the project could be approved later this year.
"The tornados last August and flooding in September show the importance of getting emergency information out to large numbers of people," says Montone. "It could also be valuable for day-to-day issues. "Improved communications amongst the city departments, road closures, say a significant motor vehicle accident occurs that causes issues around peak traffic times — we would be able to communicate."
