Maple Leafs Beat Bruins to Grab Series Lead

Auston Matthews scores his first playoff goal in Torontos game three win

Auston Matthews scored his first goal of the playoffs and set up another as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 to take a 2-1 lead in their NHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal.

Andreas Johnsson, also with a goal and an assist, and Trevor Moore provided the rest of the offence for Toronto.  Frederik Andersen made 34 saves.

David Krejci and Charlie Coyle replied for Boston.  Tuukka Rask stopped 31 shots for visitors in front of a crowd of 19,611 at Scotiabank Arena.

The Leafs downed the Bruins 4-1 in the Wednesday's opener at TD Garden before falling by the same score on Saturday.

Game 4 goes Wednesday in Toronto.

In other Stanley Cup Playoff games Cale Makar scored to help the Avalanche down the Calgary Flames 6-2 as Colorado took a 2-1 series lead.

Mikael Granlund had the winner as the Nashville Predators held off the Dallas Stars 3-2 to take a 2-1 lead in their series.

And Petr Mrazek stopped all 18 shots as the Carolina Hurricanes blanked Washington 5-0 to cut the Capitals lead in their series to 2-1.
