The assistant coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs believes the team will only get better.
D.J. Smith says players like Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander are the cornerstones of the franchise.
Smith says "in Matthews you've got a kid that's real mature, and same goes for Mitch Marner and Willie Nylander. All three are incredible and on any given night, and one of them could be the best player on the ice."
Smith and San Jose assistant coach Bob Boughner both addressed the Spitfires yesterday in terms of preparation for next week's Memorial Cup.
