Judge ruled Michael Hiller will proceed to trial on charge of manslaughter

A preliminary hearing has wrapped up for a Windsor man charged in the death of a local district fire chief.

A judge ruled Wednesday morning that the case against 43-year-old Michael Hiller will proceed on charges of manslaughter and assault.

In March 2018, Windsor police were called to a home on Daytona Ave., near Malden, for a fight.

Joe St. Louis, 51, a district fire chief in Lakeshore, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries and died five days later.

The hearing is necessary to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.  A publication ban is in place preventing any details or evidence from being broadcast.

The case returns to court in May.
