A North Carolina man wanted on a charge of first degree murder is in custody after he was arrested at the Ambassador Bridge.
US Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a man as he and a woman tried to cross into Canada on March 24 at about 4am.
The woman was driving the car with a man in the passenger seat. Both were US citizens.
The car had been turned around by Canadian authorities because they didn't have identification and when the pair got to American officials on the bridge, claimed they had never intended to go to Canada.
A secondary inspection saw a fingerprint match that identified the man in the passenger seat as Jerome Jones.
Jones is wanted for first degree murder in Cumberland County, NC.
“CBP Officers went the extra mile to identify the subject of a murder warrant,” says Roderick Blanchard, port director. “Our vigilance and attention to detail helps keep our communities safe.”
Jones was arrested and transported to Wayne County Jail to await extradition.
